Smooth & Juicy, Satellite Grand Opening - Today!

Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland will cut the ribbon at today's grand opening celebration. After a very successful month-long "soft opening" Smooth & Juicy, in partnership with Satellite Coffee is ready to officially celebrate their opening tonight at 5 pm.

Thrill of the Grill

A new lunch spot on Tacoma Ave serves up standard American fare at family-friendly prices.

Low prices and simple but good food make it worth checking out this little 50s style burger joint. "Thrill of the Grill" has replaced the little taco stand near the hilltop, downtown. The menu is pretty basic: burgers, natural cut french fries, hot/corn dogs, shakes and fountain drinks.

Shanghai House Brings New Flavor to Commerce Street

Tacoma has plenty of fabulous Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese grub, but very little in the way of worthwhile Chinese restaurants. Shanghai House, which opened this spring on Commerce, is a refreshing deviation from this trend.

Satellite Coffee (48 Good Days in Tacoma: Lovely Little Satellite Rises From the Old Temple)

Do you remember The Temple of the Bean? I don't, it was way before my Tacoma time, but lots of people seem to have very fond memories of the place. The tiny space it occupied above Tricky's Pop Culture Emporium and Supernova Tattoo, across the street from Wright Park, has finally reopened as a new, non-corporate coffee spot, Satellite Coffee.

Puget Sound Pizza (49 Good Days in Tacoma: More Breakfast, and New Deals)

A little while ago, Puget Sound Pizza extended their breakfast hours to 7 days a week, setting the stage for the first ever "FeedTacoma BreakfastFeed," soon to be a regular event every 3rd Wednesday of the month. The owner created special $5.00 breakfast deals for the occasion, including any omelette on the menu, like my favorite, the "Mother and Child Reunion"

Metro Coffee (56 Good Days in Tacoma)

I met up with Andrew Fry today at the Metro, for a chat about blogging and coffee so strong I'm still trying to settle down 7 hours later. (Sorry about all that talking Andrew, you bought me the coffee!)

Margaret's Cafe (120 Good Days in Tacoma)

Margaret's is a calm, airy space in the midst of lunch hour chaos in downtown Tacoma. We stopped in for coffee, milk, and a cookie after dropping big sister off for her first day of school, and before a lunch meeting down the street.
