Thursday, July 3rd:
  • Shore Leave Celebration - Join us for a procession from the Tall Ships festival, across the Bridge of Glass, to Tollefson Plaza (S 17th and Pacific). Chalk artists & Live music will kick off the Tall Ships arrival! Procession begins at 7:30 PM.

Friday, July 4th:
  • Freedom Fair - Tacoma's huge 4th of July festival takes place along the Ruston Way Waterfront, North of Tall Ships. Map

  • Tall Ships Festival Community Workshop: Beware of Pirates and Sea Sirens - Museum of Glass, 1-4 pm. Enjoy the Tall Ships Festival and then step into the Museum of Glass for more nautical fun. Join artist Diane Kurzyna for a pirate- and mermaid-themed community workshop. Included with Museum of Glass admission. (Free to crew members with ID.) Map

Saturday, July 5th:
  • Annual Museum Store Tent Sale - Museum of Glass, 9 am to 4 pm. Shop at the Museum Store’s annual sale on the plaza. The sale will feature an assortment of sea-related glass items to commemorate your Tall Ships experience, as well as select Hot Shop glass and special discounts on closeout merchandise. Shop early for the best selection! Map

  • TacomaOpolis: Underground Art/Fashion Party - All ages, 8 - 11 pm. Location: to be announced. Cover: $19 with proceeds to benefit local non profit contemporary art galleries For more information, call (253)549-6400.

  • Magic Lantern Show - Free, 7:30 pm. Pythian Temple, 926 Broadway, (253) 272-4433. A Magic Lantern is an early form of projector, throwing an enlarged image of a transparency on a white screen. Dating from the 1600's, Magic Lanterns were the earliest form of slide show. Popular images included travel scenes, dramatic story slides, moral tales, song slides, religious and patriotic themes, and comic pictures.

  • "The Black Pirate" - Silent film fundraiser for First Night Tacoma. Rialto Theatre, S 9th and Broadway, 7 pm. Tickets available at LeRoy Jewelers, King's Books, Glenna's Clothing, or at the Pantages Box Office the day of the event. Price to be announced. Produced in 1926, The Black Pirate is a swashbuckling nautical adventure, starring Douglas Fairbanks. On the high seas, the athletic Fairbanks provides a no-holds barred, rip-roaring, stunt-filled voyage -- complete with a one-man takeover of a merchant ship. Dennis James, preeminent silent film accompanist and Tacoma resident, will perform live on the pipe organ. Map

  • Tall Ships Tacoma July 3rd - 7th, along Commencement Bay and the Thea Foss Waterway.

  • Tacoma Art Supply Juried Art Show July 3rd-7th. On the grass outside Tollefson Plaza, across the street from Tacoma Art Museum. Map

  • 21 Commerce - July 3 -7th - DJ, top 40 and hip hop. All ages nights Friday and Sunday, otherwise 21+. Map

  • Cans - July 3 - 5th, 7th. DJ and dancing after 7 pm. 21+. Crew members and ladies pay no cover.

  • Two Vaults Gallery Icon Show- 602 Fawcett Ave, (253) 759-6233. The Tacoma Tall Ships event inspires the creation of this show consisting of icons which celebrate local politicians, civic leaders or local known personalities. Nautical themes will also be included.
