Why did you choose to send your child there?

Philosophy, teachers, outstanding reputation. Arcadia Montessori was a PHENOMENAL school for us! If it went through 8th grade or even 5th, we would have stayed there until middle/high school. It recently expanded to go up to 2nd grade. We were torn about leaving, however, we decided that for our child, the transition to change schools was better made at kindergarten rather than in 3rd grade.

Top notch teachers, incredible learning environment, supportive and inclusive with an outstanding world view! In Kindergarten, our son had a Passport to the world. He learned to read, write and do math problems with themes from many different countries! He also had very thorough components in environmental science, outer space, the human body and influential people of the world (Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Jr, etc). Lots of emphasis on arts, music and math. The teacher student ratio was about 1:7. His class took field trips to the Pacific Science Center (Seattle), Gig Harbor's Kopachuck State Park, Vashon Island, an organic farm and a couple of other places.

Is there anything you don't like about it?

Arcadia leases the building that they are housed in. It is a house converted to a school on over an acre (!) of wonderful outdoor play space. The building is "tired", but this in no way impedes the educational environment and the play space is larger than that of many of the Tacoma Public Schools for only about 60 children. It has grass, wood chips, play structures, a court for riding bikes, trikes, wagons, etc and lots more.

Other comments: This is a very, very special school. I can't say enough great things about it! Our son absolutely flourished and was downright excited to go to school at Arcadia every day. The community is amazing. 2 Replies
