Olympus Women's Spa, located at 8615 S. Tacoma Way (technically Lakewood) is not for everyone. When you enter, you are handed a bath towel, a face towel, a bath robe, and a cap for your hair. You go through the door and take off your shoes - to be placed in shelves with everyone else's shoes. Then, it's off to the locker room to change (your locker number is also your service number if you purchase additional services). The rest of the time is spent in the robe or naked. Personally, I find this liberating, because there are women of ALL body types in there and nobody seems to be suffering from body image issues. It feels quite nice to be accepted among so many who also have stretch marks, scars, and the like.
I have been here a total of 4 times. For 25 dollars, you get unlimited use of a long list of services. (See below) Twice, I have purchased additional services. (Including a body scrub, full body massage, foot treatment which is a 25 minute foot massage with reflexology work, and hand and feet paraffin treatments). Both times, the scheduling of the additional services has been completely messed up. The services themselves were fantastic, however.
On my first trip, I ordered the massage and body scrub package. I scheduled my massage after the scrub so I could be more relaxed before heading home. About 30 minutes after my scrub was to begin, I went to ask what had gone wrong. Due to scheduling problems, I was going to have to wait 20 minutes, have my massage, and then have my body scrub. Just the opposite of what I wanted.
This last trip (just yesterday) I ordered the foot treatment and the paraffin treatments for hands and feet. I went and soaked and enjoyed the water for an hour and was then called in for my foot treatment right on schedule. I went in and the massage therapist asked me what I wanted done. I told her my legs and feet. I had never had a foot treatment done so I did not know what it included. She went to work and I lost complete track of time under her very relaxing hands. When she was finished and I had dressed I noticed the it was now an hour later (not 25 minutes). I immediately walked up to the front desk and asked when my paraffin treatment was. They were surprised that I had not yet received it and asked if I had told the massage therapist that I was to get the foot treatment and the paraffin. I told them that I had not and was not aware that it was up to me to communicate this to the massage therapist. I thought that someone had written down my requested treatments on the massage therapist's board. They called the massage therapist up to the front desk and the women at the front desk seemed quite confused as to how this had happened. At one point, I felt they were irritated with me for the mistake. I could not, unfortunately, afford to pay for the paraffin treatment as well as the 50-minute massage, nor did I have the time to stay as I had other plans. So, I ended up changing my services to the 50-minute massage only and received a 10 dollar refund on the difference with very few apologies.
I believe that the biggest issue here is a language barrier. Most of the women who work at the spa do not speak English well. If I purchase additional services again, I will have to be very pro-active and make sure that everybody is on the same page about what services are expected.
I will be going again and I do recommend this as a fantastic place to spend an afternoon pampering yourself.
