Healthier Lunches in Tacoma Public Schools - Sign the Petition!

Every school day, kids across the district sit down to a fast-food style menu consisting of corn dogs, hamburgers, nachos, and pizza. For 60% of our students, school lunch (and breakfast) is not a choice but an economic necessity.

The Tacoma School District presently has a window of opportunity to work with "ACHIEVE Healthy Communities" - a federally funded initiative currently in the process of piloting a healthy menu in Peninsula schools. Although the Tacoma School Board voted some time ago to partner with ACHIEVE, to date no real progress has been made.

Tacoma will not adopt a healthier menu until the district is satisfied that such a change would prove popular enough to pencil out.

Stand up and be counted! Would you like to see Tacoma's kids eat healthier? Would you be more likely to buy school lunch for your own child if the menu changed for the better? Add your name to the petition! (And please use the comments to tell the schools you will buy school lunch if the menu changes.)

changes

I changed the wording of the introductory paragraphs a bit, just to be a little less wordy. (But not the petition itself) If anyone objects please let me know, I can revert to the old version.
