Colorful painted cloth (called sadza), appliquéd quilts and boards tell stories of daily life in the small village of Weya, Zimbabwe; washing and drying clothes, making beer, picking fruit and cooking. Other artwork vibrantly captures wedding days, community celebrations and popular folktales.
Art from the Zimbabwe village will be on exhibition beginning Thursday, December 3 at the Handforth Gallery in the Tacoma Public Library's downtown Main Library. The exhibition, co-sponsored by the Zimbabwe Artists Project, continues through January 9, 2010. Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, and from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday & Saturday.
A reception for the exhibition with Richard Adams, the Executive Director of the Zimbabwe Artists Project, will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 3. Information (253) 591-5666 or www.tacomapubliclibrary.org
