Wright Park Redesign: a Home Run for Metro Parks
Wright Park's newly designed playground and sprayground have been in the works for years, but they have been worth the wait. My children, both wading pool evangelists, have mourned the loss of the city's deepest wading pool since the city took it out two summers ago.
All that bitterness fled this weekend when they ran down the hill from the conservatory to see the work of modern art that replaced the old wading pool, a mini version of the Seattle Center fountain accompanied by a gorgeous and very well thought out playground.
While the kids spun around on the top-like merry go round I took note of the circular design of the playground, perfect for keeping tabs on multiple kids. On one side is a play structure designed for toddlers and wheelchair access, while the other sports several decently sized slides and monkey bars, bordered by steps that double as seating for parents. Next to the sprayground and the pretty WPA-era bathrooms is a bank of swingsets, with options for babies and big kids as well as a swing for disabled children.
Good design is enough to get me excited (it's possible I need to get out more) but watching the kids play it was clear they loved it, too.
It's beautiful out right now! Take a spin around the new Wright Park and feel sorry for all those cold Midwestern and Northeastern people who don't live in the greatest place on earth.

Ooh, super-nice. There was one part of the old monkey bars that was a real head-banger and I've hit my head on it more than once. This looks really nice. I can tell we will be there a lot this year.
And dang, your website keeps getting better and better by leaps and bounds.

Didn't know the monkey shines went out today. We went on Sunday. Should have gone today, it's gawgeous! But Belly's got a friend over.

Find any monkey shines? That's a sweet looking playground BTW. Can't wait to take Max.
