A Week of Street Festivals

This week is so full of street festivals, it's a little bit overwhelming.

The fun starts this Tuesday, with National Night Out.

This week is World Breastfeeding Week and La Leche League of Seattle will be joining in a worldwide synchronized breastfeeding record attempt, this Wednesday, beginning at 9:30 am at the Seattle Center International Fountain.

This weekend's Festivals:

  • "Glitter Glisten and Gleam" - The Tacoma Art Museum will be Free this Friday, starting at 6 pm. Wear your shiniest clothes, and be there for the kick-off of this weekend's Showcase Tacoma festival.
  • Speaking of Showcase Tacoma - it runs this Friday, August 10, through Sunday August 12th. Head down to Pacific Avenue for a weekend of all the best Tacoma's art and cultural scene has to offer, with plenty of children's activities, too! More information on the calendar.
  • This coming weekend is also the McKinley Street Festival - a big street carnival just up McKinley hill from downtown.
  • If you want to escape to the countryside, next weekend is also the Loggers Jubilee, a big annual event that takes place in the town of Morton, WA. The Mt. Rainier Scenic RR will be running specials all weekend as well.

There a few upcoming School Supply Giveaways I thought I should mention.

  • This Saturday, August 11th, there's a School Supply and Health and Safety Fair at the Portland Avenue Community Center, from 10 am to 6 pm.
  • Also this Saturday, a school supply giveaway at the McKinley Street Festival.
  • One week later on August 18th, a School Supply Giveaway at the Hilltop Christian Center Block Party - People's Park, 9th and MLK, 10 am to 4 pm.
  • There's always more going on, including lots of free park programs and activities. Check the calendar and the Summer fun section for great stuff, every day of the week.
