Warthog BBQ (224 Good Days in Tacoma: More Fun for Carnivores)

Yesterday I was on a mission to find Father's Day recommendations. It doesn't seem to be much of a restaurant holiday, and surprisingly most of the BBQ places in town are going to be closed. I did find one offering a special menu that day: Warthog BBQ, in Fife. We were in the area last night and thought we'd check it out. Research, you know.
Warthog is in a fun log cabin-style building, and the taxidermy decor tells you right off this is a place for carnivores. That, and the "vegetarian special:" salmon burgers. The kids got a huge kick out of the surroundings. The atmosphere is very informal, customers order at the counter and the food is brought to the table. There's also plenty of outdoor picnic table seating.
The BBQ was pretty bland, unfortunately. My husband describes it as "Scandinavian Style BBQ," slightly dry brisket with innocuous sauce added after the fact. The smoked ham was also a little too bland. The chicken was definitely the best BBQ item we tried, it was very moist and sported a rub that brought the flavor up a little. The family ate too huge slices of cornbread, which seemed to go down fine, and the potato salad was fine if nothing to write home about. I wished for some greens or anything not involving starch or meat, the only green option on the menu is salad. The kids enjoyed dinosaur nuggets, although my four year old complained that they did not taste like dinosaurs. The sweet tea was sweet enough to put me in a sugar coma, but tasty.
While the seasonings could use a little work, we had a very nice overall experience at Warthog. It's a low-stress place to take the kids or order a big meal to go, and the service was fast and friendly. There's always the option of taking it home and adding your own secret sauce. They have a "family special" including most of the big meat items on the menu, for $49.95.
