Thai Hut 2 (2 Good Days in Tacoma)
I said the last Thai food post was the last food post of the year, but looks like I've got one more in me. We were given an Olive Garden gift certificate for Christmas and headed out tonight with the intention of giving that a try, but with a wait time of 40 minutes, we though we'd see what else that particular shopping center had to offer.
It was a delicious accident that we happened upon the less than promising sounding "Thai Hut 2" and their fabulous food, tucked away where it could easily be overlooked, behind an Applebee's. Their spicy dishes and speedy service put a quick end to what was setting up to be a family-wide bad mood.
My daughter had to have won ton soup again, and theirs had a delicious veggie-filled broth with slices of bbq pork floating on top. My husband was grumpy about ordering the $7 soup but came around immediately once he tasted it. For his entree, he chose a spicy beef and basil dish, that had an excellent kick even though we ordered it medium. I had the panang curry chicken and it had a great flavor, too. We managed to eat every bite in under half an hour.
You know I look for the positive in these blog entries, but there's no stretching going on here. This is good food, and judging from the number of smiling people in the dining room, most everyone else agrees with that assessment.
When we arrived they were busy dealing with a party of 8 and a full restaurant, but they still managed to bring everything out quickly. We left full and happy, the Olive Garden can definitely wait for another day.

Tried it today (never would have found it without your write-up). Very tasty; they were especially good with the veggies, not overcooked. Surprisingly spicy (ordered 2 stars out of 4)--needed a Thai iced tea not to get spiced out. Good menu. Service was quick and nice. Lunch prices (Mon-Fri only) distinctly lower than dinner--$7ish rather than $9ish; will shoot for lunch next time.

We found it in a happy accident, as well. We were going to Mongolian Grill, which happened to be under remodel at the time. Thai Hut 2 is now our favorite restaurant, and has been for a couple of years. The service is outstanding, the food is fabulous and we've never had to wait for a table. We now live down in Thurston Co. and still drive up to Tacoma for Thai food once in awhile.
