Teen shot in after hours party in Tacoma

The News Tribune reports, shortly after 5 a.m. this morning a 17 or 18-year-old teen was shot dead at an after hours party in the 1600 block of Center Street in Tacoma. The victim, an unwelcomed guest, was shot at least twice and was hit from behind. Attempts at CPR were unsuccessful.

The suspect remains at large.

The victim's name has yet to be released, though people who showed up at the scene Saturday afternoon said they were the victim's relatives.

The shooting occured at a gathering of at least 100 people, mostly in their 30's and 40's, who had congergated in a vacant building in the second floor for a party after closing time at bars.

By the time police arrived, several witnesses had left the scene. Party-goers jumped out of windows and over fences to escape. When police arrived, 8 vehicles and 35 people remained at the scene. Police ask any witnesses who may have seen the shooting to come forward.

Police continue to investigate and interview witnesses.
