Taqueria Los Amigos
After hiding from the heat and humidity at Odyssey 1 yesterday afternoon, the kids and I took a long ride out to South Tacoma Way with the windows down, enjoying the cool breeze that finally blew in and swept away the creeping ickiness (I believe that is the technical term) that had made us cranky all weekend. We landed at Taqueria Los Amigos, a no-frills order at the counter Mexican restaurant tucked inside a market.

This is my new favorite Taqueria. Like my old favorite (El Antojo, on McKinley) it has a salsa bar and a selection of Aguas Frescas. I ordered a four taco plate, and the eldest (who specifically asked for Mexican food) ordered a cheeseburger. In the tradition of other local Mexican restaurants, the cheeseburger was delicious and bigger than her head. She eventually asked for a knife and fork and managed to eat about a third.

But what really won my heart was the tacos. Shredded beef, pork, chicken, and asada. All were fantastic, tender and flavorful. I ordered them with salsa and onions and really didn't need any of the extras I'd put together from the salsa bar, although a little bit of lime brightened them up even more. If I had to choose a favorite I guess it would be the shredded beef, but I'd happily eat a plate of any variety.
While the eldest and I tackled our food, my youngest assembled soft tacos from her enormous side of rice, beans, and fresh flour tortillas. Total cost for this feast, about $17 with tax.

Comfortable booths make this a cozy spot to take a family without feeling rushed, while at the same time taking advantage of speedy, low-cost counter service. We'll be back soon, with more family and friends.

Those Taco plates look a lot
Those Taco plates look a lot better than the old traditional burger and fries - load'em up with hot sauce and a nice cold beer and I am in heaven :)
