Due to predicted high temperatures, park resources have been shifted to provide daily sprayground operations at Wright Park this week from
Traditionally, spraygrounds shift to weekend only operations following Labor Day weekend when kids are heading back to school. However, operations at the centrally located park at 501 South I Street have been extended for the community to enjoy the lingering summer temperatures.
“We would love to be able to extend hours at all locations, but it is vital now for staff to focus on maintenance, repairs, and weatherization in parks throughout the system in preparation for fall and winter,” said Parks Superintendent Marina Becker. “At the same time, we know the public is excited to maximize the bonus days of summer that we’re experiencing, so we wanted to provide a venue for water play this week.”
While spraygrounds may appear to be self-operating, the systems require staffing for water quality and system management. The District has shifted resources to provide the coverage needed for the extended week of operations.
All 9 Metro Parks spraygrounds will continue weekend-only operations through the end of September.
