Summer donations campaign for Goodwill

Event Date:
July 11, 2011 - 11:45am - July 19, 2011 - 12:00pm

TACOMA – About 1,000 homes in North Tacoma will find Goodwill donation bags at their front doors this week as the agency looks for summertime donations – a first time campaign – helping people, especially young adults, receive job training and placement services.

The program will take place starting tomorrow, July 12, when the bags are dropped off in an area from Sixth Avenue to North 21st Street and between North Union Avenue and an area along North Stevens Street. Goodwill workers will come by in trucks between 9 a.m. and noon July 19 to pick up the donations, which can be left on a front step or porch in the bags or boxes marked clearly for Goodwill. The agency particularly is looking for gently used clothes, shoes and household items.  Questions about the event can be directed to Leslie Duprie at 253.573.6710 or email donate2us@tacomagoodwill.org.

“Even one box or bag can make a difference in helping someone get that first job or second chance for work,” said Terry A. Hayes, president & CEO of Tacoma Goodwill. “People should feel good knowing they’re helping others.”

Tacoma Goodwill helped 9,500 people last year, placing more than 1,200 people in jobs either with the agency or in the community. For more information about Goodwill programs, go online to www.tacomagoodwill.org.

About Tacoma Goodwill

Goodwill is a unique nonprofit business. It turns donations and business revenue into programs that change lives by helping people with disabilities or disadvantages go to work. This year, Tacoma Goodwill Industries will help 9,500 people with education, job training and placement so they can become independent self-supporting citizens. Of these, more than 1,200 people with barriers to employment will be placed in jobs in the community. Programs of Goodwill, founded in 1921, are funded through financial gifts, grants, fees, commercial services and the operation of 28 thrift stores throughout Western and Southcentral Washington.
