Silk Thai (72 Good Days in Tacoma: Great Thai in the North End)

Silk Thai has been our favorite neighborhood Thai restaurant since we moved to Tacoma. They serve consistently great food out of a surprisingly nice spot in a strip mall on 6th Avenue.

You'd never know from the outside how pleasant and cozy the interior is. Although it's a small place, I've never been there when there wasn't a party of six or more eating. Yesterday at lunch, the service was a little slow because of the aforementioned large party, and because they had only one server working. Still, she was nice and I really can't blame her for the slowness.

I have a thing for drunken noodles, which arrived in an enormous bowl filled with lots of fresh veggies. I was in a rare mood for tofu, but I thought it was a bit too soft and not quite flavored right. Back to chicken, next time. I'd ordered my dish 4.5 out of 6 stars, and it was definitely spicy enough. They don't play with the hotness scale at Silk Thai, so take that into account when you order.

The total bill for lunch with a Thai iced tea came out to under 11 dollars. I've been there at night for a "date," in the early evening with the kids (a bit cramped for them but do-able) and a quick lunch in the afternoon, and have always been served a great meal with high-quality fresh ingredients. For the price, it's hard to find better Thai food on the North side of town..
