Puget Sound Pizza (303 Good Days in Tacoma: Good Coffee and Good Breakfasts, Together at Last)

Lately, Saturday is our day for breakfast out as a family. I've had Puget Sound Pizza on our list for weeks, but we usually get out hours before their opening time of 9 am. Through a series of mis-adventures (like that Dave's post that somehow wound up back in my RSS feed this morning, apologies to the FeedTacoma readers) we didn't leave the house until 9 today and were finally able to give it a shot.

I am so glad we did. Otherwise, we would never have known where to acquire a well-prepared breakfast and decent coffee in the same Tacoma location. PSP uses Pioneer coffee, which is worlds above the freeze dried junk that most places around here serve.

Along with our coffee, the huzzbund had some of the best S.O.S. available in the area, for a very reasonable price. I had the "Mother and Child Reunion" - a fluffy omelet with grilled chicken, artichoke hearts, and feta. The S.O.S was appropriately greasy, and the omelet was appropriately not. They came with a side of red potatoes that were perfectly cooked and well-seasoned, and not deep fried. The huzzbund also gave the homemade biscuits his stamp of approval. The kids appreciated the french toast and the honey provided at the table.

Service seemed to wake up a little as we got there, but it was no big deal. It seems like the kind of place that mostly caters to people who get up a little later than we do. Their newly-expanded space had booths large enough for the kids to lounge around in, and the pervasive smell of good pizza that permeates the place even in the morning hours kept us hungry enough to wait. Only one other minor criticism, the orange juice in a bottle wasn't the greatest choice.

The kids were a little antsier than usual today, but with the lack of a crowd and relaxed atmosphere it wasn't really a problem.

We need to come back and try the pizza some time, now that PSP is open until midnight this will be easier to do.

breakfast, pizza
