Prenatal Care in Tacoma
Hi,
I just found out that I am pregnant and am trying to figure out who to see for my prenatal care. I have a horrible insurance the only clinic covered (that has midwives) is St. Joseph's Women's Clinic. I was wondering if anyone has gone there before. What about delivering at St Joe's? I've been to Pearl Place before (just for routine stuff) and loved it there, but my insurance will only cover 50% of their cost.
Any thoughts or experiences with St. Joe's would be much appreciates. I'm nervous! Excited...but nervous.

Hi, Meredith. Peggy Dunlop at
Hi, Meredith. Peggy Dunlop at the St. Joseph's Women's Clinic was my midwife and I really liked her. I also had a great experience delivering at St. Joe's--they are the only hospital around with waterbirth suites available. You can take a tour (it's included if you take a birthing class through St. Joe's) and that's a nice way to meet some of the staff and see where you'll be delivering. Good luck!
I'm not sure about St. Joe's
I'm not sure about St. Joe's midwives, but I wanted to let you know about my Midwife Ann Olsen (http://midwifeann.com). She is covered by a lot of insurances (http://midwifeann.com/insurance.htm) and even if you did out of pocket she's extremely reasonable. We birthed our son in the water at The Birthing Inn on Pearl St. in Tacoma, which is also covered by a lot of insurances (http://www.thebirthinginn.com/costs.html). The cool thing about Ann is she does births at home as part of her overall cost if that's something your intersted in too. I would highly recommend Ann and The Birthing Inn because we had the smoothest experience without any compaints what so ever.

There is a state program for Pregnant mothers that offers free supplemental pre-natal care. I just delivered my daughter and without that program we would have been in severe money troubles.

Then you can go wherever you want.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I'm still unsure about St. Joe's. I had an appointment there, but it just left me with more questions! I want to check out the Birthing Inn, too. It would be covered at 50%, I believe.
Thanks, PugJamCards for that link. I'm going to look in to the program.
I appreciate all of your help.

Here I am again - looking for more help! I'm also pregnant, first child to be born here in lovely Tacoma. Any other suggestions? I am considering Pearl Place Women's Care, like the idea, but fairly certain I can't deliver anywhere but a hospital due to personal health issues. This will be my (yikes) third child, so I need some no-frills care. I'm in the North End, would love to find someone close, but am willing to drive a bit if need be.
Thanks all!
You can still go to Pearl
You can still go to Pearl Place and deliver at the hospital. The clinic is run by both midwives and an OB. That is where I ended up going and I really like it there. I believe that they use St. Joe's for the hospital births. It might be worth checking them out.
