Poll: What should we do about Old City Hall?
Last month, downtown Tacoma's iconic Old City Hall (that beautiful building with the clocktower that you drive by when getting on the freeway by Stadium High School) sprung a leak when a pipe burst following a stint of freezing weather.
Due to an apparent combination of financial woes and absentee landlord-ism, no immediate effort was made to clean up the damage. In the days since, the power has been shut off, the building's remaining tenants have vacated, and the landlord has made no immediate plans to fix the damage, pending resolution of financial problems.
The idea of losing another historic building to owner neglect has local preservationists steaming, but the City has consistently asserted their inability to intervene in what is a private matter for the landlord.
What do you think the City of Tacoma should do, if anything? Cast your vote in our Old City Hall poll. You can even add your own (short) options. A few creative user submitted options have already been submitted.
