SLIP ON A PAIR OF WALKING SHOES
AND HELP ERADICATE HUNGER
Join 1250+ Walkers Raising Funds and Food for Hunger in the Northwest and Beyond
TACOMA, WA (September 26, 2011)—We all know what difficult economic times we are experiencing so this year’s Hunger Walk is more important than ever. Local food banks have seen a 21% increase in demand for food in our community.
One way to help is to participate in the 31st Annual Associated Ministries Hunger Walk on Sunday, October 2 from noon to 4 pm at Fort Steilacoom Park. Not only can you walk but you can bring non-perishable food to the event for our food drive to help stock local food bank shelves.
Register today at www.amhungerwalk.org or call 253-383-3056, ext. 107 The registration fee is $20 for an adult ($10 for team members), $10 children for youth 6-17, and free for children 5 and under.
When: Sunday, October 2nd
Registration: 12 -1:30pm
Run Starts: 1:30pm
Walk starts: 2:00pm
Food & Fun: 3:00pm
Where: Fort Steilacoom Park
9601 Steilacoom Boulevard in Lakewood (across from Western State Hospital)
Why: To raise $350,000 for hunger relief in our community and abroad
Every dollar donated translates into $12 in food products, so the Hunger Walk can generate $3 million in food for hot meal sites, food banks and shelters. In Washington, 1 in 5 households doesn’t have enough money to buy the food they need. In Pierce County, there are nearly a half-million (unduplicated) visits to food banks annually. The majority of visits are made by children, senior citizens or families in need.
