North Slope Park (91 Good Days in Tacoma)
This morning, we awoke to find some strange ball of fire in the sky, bringing light and warmth to the Earth. To fully appreciate such a rare celestial occurrence, we made plans to meet a friend at North Slope Park, a hidden playground we finally located just at the end of the Summer and hadn't had a chance to visit yet.

North Slope Historic District Park is maintained cooperatively by the city and a North End neighborhood group, and became a city park in 2002. It's a tiny little pocket park, but just right for my four year old and my friend's 18 month old. The wood chip surface of the play area keeps the mud at bay during the rainy season, and the play structure is just the right size for the under 6 set. Older or wilder kids might be tempted to run around in the lovely vegetation and play hide and seek around the border of the park, which leads straight to the road.

Finding the park is a bit tricky, I've driven by this spot many times and never knew there was a park there. It looks a little like the playground belongs to the apartment building next door, but look for the statue of a stack of books and you'll know you're in the right place.

We live not too far from this park and love it! Tacoma should have a park like this on every 3 blocks!
