Minji's Obsession
I have a monkey on my back. No, I'm not talking about this guy, I'm referring to a recent obsession with Minji's Pho, in the James Center across from TCC. I've been there three times in the past week, yet for some reason I've never written about the place.
I guess I haven't because Pho is such a basic comfort food: always good but not highly varied from place to place. There's just something about Minji's that keeps me coming back, though. I dream of their carrot beef noodle soup. Every time we're in there, there's a pretty broad cross-section of Tacomans, from students to families to professionals in suits and ties.

Minji's has all of your basic Pho items, plus a few rice and noodle dishes to round out the menu. My girls usually share a bowl of chicken noodle, sans onions and spices, and a bubble tea. (Bubble tea contains neither bubbles nor tea, it's sort of a smoothie with big tapioca pearls at the bottom.) I order either the carrot beef stew or a basic well-done brisket soup, and load it up with all the provided goodies: bean sprouts, serrano peppers, basil and lime. It's always delicious (gluten free, too!) and a big bowl will run you less than 6 dollars.

Pho is addictive, and part of Minji's popularity is its availability any time you want it: 7 days a week from 11 am to 11 pm. At one time, they stayed open until 3 am, but now you have to get your fix before midnight.
