A Meaty Local Weather Blog

Cliff Mass, a University of Washington Atmospheric Sciences professor, has a terrific blog with a focus on local forecasts. I've been frustrated with the graphically intensive, information deficient nature of a lot of weather sites, and I'm glad to find this great resource. There's lots of useful information about this week's weather including this kinda troublesome prediction for Christmas Eve:

And then later in the day another system moves in--a stronger one associated with a Pacific occluded front. Now this storm will have lots of precipitation and if it were snow...then we would have a very major event. Right now, the models are suggesting the most of the precipitation from it will be rain at low elevations (below 500 ft)...but just barely. If the models are off or some of the model physics is error (like its tendency to mix out cold air too quickly) then we could have a major event.

Eep! Stock up on hot cocoa now, while you can.

I love listening to him talk

I love listening to him talk and answer questions on KUOW. His book actually sounds great, too.

P.S. – And yes, enough

P.S. – And yes, enough double-doppler graphics, that lame KING5 fake radar screen color-wheel they keep using, flashing in the background, and silly reporters out there showing us handfuls of snow. I wonder if the weather personalities really understand what the computer models are telling them. (BTW, I love my avatar up there!)
