McKinley Park Facelift

Wow! This is going to be one amazing park, playground and skate park. It's already finished enough to stop by and play a while. (Just be very respectful of the new grass seed, or Metro Parks might have to fence it off.) The big kid and I took a little trip up there today, for a walk along the nicely paved path (mud free and perfect for a rainy day). I couldn't get a good shot of the view, but it's worth a trip just to walk along the path and see Tacoma from a different angle. McKinley's new design is intentionally open to skateboarders, but would also be great for strollers and kids just learning to ride their bikes. It reminds me a little of Chambers Bay, but without the evil incline. At the top of the hill overlooking the dome is a skatepark, which leads to a great multi-age playground and an actual restroom! (Not yet operational) The playground already has a small structure for little kids and imaginative play, a larger structure for big kids and climbing, and some interesting spinning features. Swings will soon be added to round out the fun. We didn't explore the trails leading down the hill and into the woods, but that would be a fun adventure for a less muddy day. We also stayed on the upper path because at the moment the park is a little bit isolated, however the play area is in full view of a large apartment complex. Hopefully, come summer it will be a popular place for families to play.
