Know of any open restaurant spaces in or around Downtown/the North End? One of my favorite lunchtime haunts is in danger of closing. Their little space in the Safeway shopping center on Pearl Street is currently renting for $3000 a month. Too much for a small family-run restaurant, particularly in the current business climate. There's definitely a market for inexpensive lunch food like Pho, but not with the kind of profit margin that can support that kind of outrageous rent.
So, the "available" sign is up in their window, and the owner of Pho Linh tells me she's too busy making soup right now (as she has been for the past decade) to get out there and look around. She asked me to ask everyone I know (which includes you, dear reader) if you know of any available spaces. She'd love to be downtown near the office worker crowd, but she'd consider any viable location. There are currently no Vietnamese restaurants downtown, and I'm sure her business would fit in well.
