Great Wall Buffet (217 Good Days in Tacoma)

We like buffets, over here at Casa Tacomamama. I know some people don't. We especially like Chinese buffets, our favorite being Great Wall, on Hosmer, across the freeway from the Regal Cinemas. Apparently, lots of other people like them too, although they might not be willing to admit it on a public forum. Every time we go, the place is packed.

The thing about buffets, is that there's usually plenty of cheap fried food sitting around waiting for people to pile high on their plates. Fried food really isn't all that great when it's been sitting for longer than five minutes, so do yourself a favor and branch out to the more interesting (and cost effective) options.

Great Wall usually has plenty of fresh crab, muscles, shrimp, spicy octopus, and interesting Korean side dishes. At weekend dinner times, they also offer a little bit of dim sum. They have a Mongolian Grill, although I am not personally a big fan of the concept. Their sushi is also better than average for a buffet and brought out frequently enough to stay fresh. For desert, they have a nice assortment of fresh fruit, mini cakes and tarts, and a soft serve machine.

This place is made for families. It's always filled with young children, and there's plenty of kid-friendly options to choose from in the buffet. Their bathrooms do need some work, which seems to be universal in this type of establishment in the South Sound. Prices are very reasonable: all you can eat $10.95 for dinner, $6.95 for lunch, children are a flate rate per year. (I can't remember, but it's not much.) Most drinks cost $1. Our family of four had a huge meal last night for about $36.
