A Great Coffee Shop and Deli for Kids

I'm always "multitasking" these days. So I'm constantly on the look out for places I can take my youngest and have a meeting over coffee or get a little work done out of the house. Today, my plan was to check out the new Neighborhood Coffee Shop on McKinley, but that looks to still be a few weeks away from opening, so we ended up trying out Engine House Coffee and Deli, a little further down the road just off the corner of 38th, next to Taqueria El Antojo.

Right away, I knew I'd found a place I could come to chat with another mom of a preschooler. There are plenty of comfy old chairs and toys, and the whole place has a very relaxed neighborhood feeling. The owner said she had a three year old of her own in the back. My littlest managed to talk me into a few push up pops for an after school treat, (I will warn you, there is an awful lot of candy) and settled down with a magnadoodle and a chocolate milk while I waited for my soy white mocha.

There's enough room to bring a whole playgroup to knit, or chat, or just get out of the house and get a little caffeine fix.

Engine House is across the street from the actual Engine House.

Engine House's coffee might not be the best in town, but it's great to find such a comfortable, unpretentious place. They also serve lunch.
