Come to the Bounty of the County Gleaning Discussion Group, organized by the Pierce County Gleaning Project! Gleaning is the act of collecting surplus food after harvest from farms, gardens, and orchards. The group will read books, watch documentaries, share skills, talk about issues around gleaning, and have fun! This month's book is Food Politics: How the Food Industry Influences Nutrition and Health by Marion Nestle, available at King's Books. They usually meet the first Tuesday of every month at King's Books. Please RSVP to Ellen via 253.584.1040 if you're interested!
Pierce County Gleaning Project organizes volunteers to harvest produce from local farms and fruit trees for local food banks. With more than 140,000 individuals seeking food assistance each month in Pierce County, this is a vital service to get fresh produce in the hands of those in need.
