El Toro

Tacoma is home to a number of good Mexican restaurants. Our personal favorite is El Toro, a small local chain with 5 locations around the area. Their food is heads and shoulders above certain national chains that are very popular in these parts, and their relaxed atmosphere, great service, and comfortable booths make it a great family option.

The menu is much more extensive than your average Mexican chain, and includes some more authentic options. In addition to lots of great food for adults, they have a children's menu, and offer crayons and chips and salsa while you wait. The wait is never very long, however. Service is excellent even on a busy weekend night. Their booths are sheltered enough to keep even the most sensitive kid from going bonkers over the noise level.

Most importantly, they are consistent. We've never had a bad meal there.

The Margaritas are tasty, as well.

Edited to add: We've heard the service is not consistent at all locations. We recommend the Pearl St location and have also had nice experiences at the one downtown.

Age Recommendation: All
