On our way to the zoo today, we stopped into a little hole in the wall store/deli. "Don's Ruston Market" is going to be our official Zoo Food provider from now on, I think.
I've visited Point Defiance park at least twice a week for the past three years, and some how never explored Ruston past Pearl St. Don's is on 51st and Winnifred, an adorable street that will make you want to go look up Ruston real estate prices as soon as you get home.
Don's is exactly the sort of place I fantasize going into the empty spot that Calendula Nursery used to occupy by Wright Park: A deli counter and old-fashioned soda fountain, with a small assortment of candy and other goodies and just enough indoor seating to accommodate folks on a rainy day. Some incarnation of Don's has existed in Ruston since 1906, and demand for a simple soda fountain/deli/candy store still seems to be going strong.
The kids got a cheese and veggie sandwich big enough to share and still have plenty left over, and a very tasty vanilla milkshake. My choices were pretty limited, but if I could have I would definitely have gone for a pastrami sandwich with my float.
We'll definitely make Don's a regular stop from now on.
What happened to yesterday's entry?
The problem with this whole "Good Days" concept, is that my children don't always play along. I'm going to take tonight to breathe a little and write two entries tomorrow, I know I'm a day behind. Please feel free to help me out of my predicament by submitting your own entry!
