A conversation on the TNT Diner blog inspired me to stop by Daniah's International Market & Deli again and give their food a try.
Daniah's is the only source for Halal meats in the Tacoma area, and though a bit of a whole in the wall business seems to be humming along. There's a row of 4 or 5 tables where customers can sit and enjoy kabab, gyros, shawarma, falafel, and other Middle Eastern specialties.
I ordered my chicken kabab to go, and sat at one of the comfortable tables with a "Vimto" (berry-flavored soda) included in the price of my meal. I also ordered a few pieces of baklava for Tacomadaddy, which - as Ed Murietta noted in his review of a few years back - was loaded with pistachios. (My husband thought it was a little dry. I'm not a huge honey fan and I think I'd have loved it.)
The chicken kabab came piled on top of a huge plate of saffron rice, and had a nice curry flavor. All in all a great meal deal at $6.99 for all that food, a drink, and a small salad. Daniah's is very informal and I think I might take the kids back with me some time for an early dinner.
I'd love to know about their gyros, let me know if you've tried them.
