Chambers Primary and Stanley Elementary (213 Good Days in Tacoma: 2 Cool School Playgrounds)
These playgrounds are only available after school, on weekends and during the Summer, so I thought I'd combine them in one entry.
Chambers Primary is located in University Place, off of Grandview Blvd, hidden deep within a residential neighborhood. This is one of the best playgrounds in the area, if you can find it. It's about 15 years old now, but was quite state of the art at the time it was built. It's a sprawling play structure, loosely resembling a castle. If you've heard vague rumors about a "castle playground" in University Place, this is the one. The school also has a more standard Big Toy play structure, see saw, tire swing, and a large play field.
Stanley Elementary, in Central Tacoma, has a great playground with a little bit of everything. It's got some of the more modern super safe possibly to the point of boring equipment, right next to some great old-school climbing structures and big kid swings. These pictures were taken at a community egg hunt, the day before Easter.
The Stewart playground is adjacent to a huge play field and the Al Davies branch of the Boys and Girls Club.

Thanks for posting this! It's funny, I was just talking with someone the other day about how all the playgrounds look the same now - and they are all LAME! Where's the edge? Where's the metal? Where are the monkey bars, merry-go-rounds, and see-saws? I'm glad there are still a few around. We have safety-fied the fun out of our playgrounds, in my opinion. Plastic may be safer, but it totally sucks- especially those lame slides. Good for building up static electricity to shock the hell out of other people though.
I would love to see an online map reviewing and rating the different playgrounds. Oh the things we think about once we have kids...
