Broadway Farmers Market Ends Thursday
After 20 weeks, the city’s largest farmers market, Broadway, is finishing its season. Sustainable Community Day on October 15th will serve as the climactic finish to a strong year for the veteran market.
Activities, which kick off at 9 am and conclude at 2 pm, include community groups hosting conversations on eco-sustainability and community development. You can also expect a sustainable, second-hand fashion show from UrbanXChange - complete with mini-lecture on dressing sustainably. Perennial community prophet, singer/song-writer, Josh Ott, will provide the soundtrack to the day.
According to the market’s planners, the day’s name was a very intentional choice of words.
“It’s a play on words,” says BFM manager, Justin Mayfield. “Sustainability is a hot topic right now and we think the best solutions lie in local community. At the same time, as Tacoma and Downtown cultivate community connection, Broadway is possibly the best expression of it. We’d like to see the community inspire each other to sustain that effort in the off season.”
In its 19th year, the board and staff who manage Broadway are no strangers to creating great events. “We think what we have planned will help tide people over until the 2010 season.”
Broadway Farmers Market is part of Tacoma Farmers Markets and is located between 9th and 11th on Broadway, Downtown.
