Birthday Party Venues

I have made this post a sticky. Please add your birthday party venue suggestions in the comments.

If you are fortunate to have a child with a summer birthday, parks are always your best bet. If that is not an option, here are some local alternatives to the Big Cheese or the Big M:

Odyssey 1

We have thrown parties at Odyssey twice now, and have been extremely pleased with the experience. Odyssey has a huge indoor play park, completely separate from any of the video games that take tokens. Birthday party packages at Odyssey come with the use of a birthday room, (try to get the big one, it's much better) play park admission, 10 tokens per child, invitations, two slice of pizza per child, pop, a turn in the "birthday machine" (like one of those booths you stand in while money blows around you, except it's token tickets), and a server who does all of the serving and cleaning for you. All you do is show up and bring a cake. 11.99 per child with a 7 child minimum. They also offer do it yourself parties on weekdays.

Children's Museum of Tacoma

We've been to a few parties at the Children's Museum of Tacoma and have always had a great time. They offer a variety of party packages, ranging from 125 (for a basic weekday party for 10) to 250 dollars (for the whole facility for 20). All packages include use of the facility for 2 hours for all of your guests, maps and directions to put in your invitations, passes for each child to get in free on a future visit, a coupon for each child for a personal size pizza at Round Table, a special birthday gift for the child, and one or more party experts to facilitate activities (depending on the package you buy). Fancier packages come with more perks, like a hands-on activity run by the museum staff. Pizzas can be ordered from Round Table for an additional charge of 10 dollars each. One warning on the pizza: we've been to one party where the pizza came so late it was free, and a friend of ours attended one where it never came at all. This of course is not the fault of the museum. Overall, the Children's Museum of Tacoma is a great place to have a birthday party, and especially well-suited to handle a wide range of kids from very young toddlers to "tweens."

Narrows Plaza Bowl

We had a good time at a party here once. Packages available starting at 14 dollars per person: bowling for 1.5 hours, shoe rental, a slice pizza or hot dog, pop, paper products, invites, party attendant, balloons, and a certificate good for another hour of bowling on the next visit. Glow in the dark bowling on the weekends for 2 dollars more. Bumpers available.

The Bead Factory

We haven't tried this place out for a birthday party yet (our kids are on the young side for it, still) but we've visited a few times to pick out beads and make necklaces, and found it to be a fun place with knowledgeable, kind staff. It seems like the perfect place for 8-12 year old girls.

Morgan Family YMCA

I love this branch of the Y, but have not personally had the opportunity to try a birthday party there. They offer parties in their huge toddler gym, swimming parties, and climbing parties. Toddler gym parties are 60 dollars for up to 15 children ages 2 to 6.

Other Venues We Haven't Visited

Open Art Studio

Choose from drawing, pottery, or beading parties.

Edgeworks Climbing Gym

If unlimited climbing for two hours sounds like a party to you, this is the place! 25 dollars per person.

Chalet Bowl

Small Proctor district bowling ally offers party packages starting at 13 dollars per child.
