In May of 1985, Tacoma colorectal surgeon Gordon Klatt ran continuously for 24-hours to raise awareness and funding to fight cancer through the American Cancer Society. His actions inspired Relay for Life, which is now the largest health related fundraising event in the United States having raised over $4.5 billion.
