We're doing some quiet mother-daughter stuff these last few days before my big girl starts fist grade, her first year of all-day school. We spent some hours yesterday trundling around the University of Puget Sound campus with Miss First Grader on her bike, the preschooler in a wagon, and mama pulling and pushing and assisting around corners.
UPS is a beautiful place to walk with a stroller, practice bike riding with little kids, or just take a lazy walk on a pretty day. The whole place seems to be ADA-compliant, so there aren't any surprises to slow you down. We always have to stop at Diversions Cafe in the student center (open to the public, as is the Oppenheimer Cafe that seems to be trying to drum up some business with chalk signs around campus) and at the fountain.
Now that I bring my camera everywhere, it's a lot easier to be patient while the kids smell the roses and pick up every petal they can find. We also have to stop at Harned Hall (the place with all the construction, entrance is on Union) to visit Willy the gray whale,
and take a break at the lovely little picnic area in the middle of a stand of mature trees. There's a huge picnic table here that would be great for a large group or outdoor meeting.
If you are looking for a place to hike with strollers, wheelchairs, walkers, or just grab a latte and take a quiet walk, I highly recommend checking out the UPS campus.
