Tacoma School Board Plans Meet & Greet Superintendent Candidate Event

The Tacoma School Board has planned a Meet & Greet the Superientendant Canadidate event for September 6.

The pubic will have a chance to meet and chat with Carla Santorno, the Tacoma School Board's only internal canadidate before Santorno's public interview with the school board September 7 at 9:30 a.m. at the Central Adminstation Building, 601 South 8th Street, fourth-floor auditorium.

In the past few weeks, the public dialogue between the Tacoma Education Association and the school district has grown heated (to put it mildly.)  Beyond all the emotional rhetoric, however, there are real issues at stake that effect students, teachers, and the district's ability to weather the ongoing economic storm.

Tacoma's 19th Annual Maritime Fest This Weekend

Tacoma's Maritime Fest is this weekend! Maritime Fest is celebrating the working waterfront. Maritime Fest is partnering with Clean Green Boating Festival to motivate everyone to be involved in clean, safe boating and responsibility. This year, the fest will name the winner of the first annual "Youth on Board" Clean Green Boating Scholorship, which 30 students will have the chance to go on a three-day, two nights marine science adventure on Sallish Sea sailing vessel.

Teachers Union, District Yet to Agree on New Contract

Are you counting on school starting on time September 1st? Best to have a Plan B ready, just in case.

The Tacoma Education Association and Tacoma Public Schools have yet to agree on terms for a new contract.  If a settlement is not reached by the week of August 29th, teachers will vote on whether or not to authorize a strike.
