Steilacoom

Sunnyside Beach

I've been waiting for another sunny day to talk about Sunnyside, but I think yesterday was probably it for the rest of the weekend. We checked it out last Sunday when temperatures were in the 80s, and it seemed like the entire South Sound had decided to drive to Steilacoom and enjoy a day at the beach.

Sunnyside is a Steilacoom park that requires a five dollar parking fee from anyone not a resident. It boasts a long beach, picnic tables, playground, swings, a beach volleyball court and enough grass for a game of frisbee, if you stake it out early in the day.

Andrew Anderson Marine Park (261 Good Days in Tacoma: Anderson Island Adventures (Part I))

(100 entries!) As a freeway-phobe, I'm always looking for escapes that don't involve too much driving. This morning I wanted to try something new, and Anderson Island looked pretty inviting.

The island is actually a pretty quick trip from Tacoma. A ferry makes (somewhat) hourly trips from Steilacoom, a half hour drive from Tacoma if you take the back roads.
