Gibsons Brings Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt to Stadium District

Frozen Yogurt Sunday

"Somebody should open up a frozen yogurt shop" - how many times have you heard a local say this?  Since the last TCBY closed at James Center a few years back, I don't think there has been a frozen yogurt shop anywhere in the Tacoma metropolitan area.  Until this week, that is.

Wright Park Redesign: a Home Run for Metro Parks

Wright Park's newly designed playground and sprayground have been in the works for years, but they have been worth the wait. My children, both wading pool evangelists, have mourned the loss of the city's deepest wading pool since the city took it out two summers ago. wright park sprayground

All that bitterness fled this weekend when they ran down the hill from the conservatory to see the work of modern art that replaced the old wading pool, a mini version of the Seattle Center fountain accompanied by a gorgeous and very well thought out playground.

Playground Progress: A Little Love for Central Tacoma

Over the course of the past four years or so, parks all over the city have gotten a face lift. Somehow, Central Tacoma seemed to end up at the end of the line. At long last, three center city parks are receiving playground upgrades: Franklin, Wright, and McCarver. This summer I ran into Ms. Darcy and her toddler Max at Franklin Park, where he was magnetically attracted to the orange caution tape that was supposed to signal to pre-verbal children that they should not climb the decaying remnants of the Big Toy. We talked about feeling a little bit less than excited about the parks in her area, and hoping that some of the promised upgrades would come sooner rather than later.

Beyond Crayons and Fingerpainting: Kids Art Exhibition Opens Today!

Tacomamama food critic Daphne Daniel will be showing three of her pieces at B2 Fine Art Gallery, (Pronounced "B Squared.")  The exhibition kicks off today, with a special artist's reception from 2-5.  Prints of her work may or may not be available for sale (I'm totally confused about where we're at with that.) Hope to see you there!

Old Town Park

I'd never really move to Tukwila. Not with days like yesterday just a short drive down the hill. Spring has finally decided to make a Spring Break appearance, so when Amy called about an adventure yesterday, I thought of Old Town Park, The Spar, and the Waterfront. This is one of my all-time favorite Good Tacoma Days, and all you need to enjoy it is a little warmth and sunlight.
