Orchard and Vine Community Garden Dedication

Come join the northend neighborhood as we celebrate the creation of one of Tacoma's newest community gardens! The Orchard and Vine Community Garden will be holding its dedication ceremony on Saturday, September 25th at 12:30pm-3:30pm.

Sprayground and Wading Pools, Updated for 2010!

I know it's super late, but here's the Sprayground/Wading Pool map all updated for 2010.

The Wright Park sprayground is a work in progress, and Franklin's update should take place this year. Hopefully, a new sprayground will open there next fall and there won't be any gap between wading pool removal and sprayground installation as there was at Wright.

Washington (Hoyt) to be Included in Next Levy Vote

Following an extensive review of the condition of nine of Tacoma's oldest elementary buildings, the Tacoma School Board today recommended that Washington-Hoyt's historic 1906 structure be included in the upcoming capital levy measure. The inclusion of Washington brings the total number of schools likely to be included in the ballot measure to 3, including Baker and Hunt middle schools. Since the district cannot afford to rebuild three middle schools as they had hoped to with last year's bond failure, a smaller measure opens up the possibility to replace or modernize an elementary, for approximately half the cost of a third middle school. Total cost of the measure would be 104.4 million.

Proctor loves chocolate at Metropolitan Market

You may call it pandering, but this is well worth meandering: Starting Wednesday this neighborhood supermarket tempts Tacoma chocolate lovers for five blissful days, but Sunday Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., it’s downright cocoa loco!

Flipping Out

Flipping Out provides a great alternative to corporate fast food joints: great burgers, friendly service and free ice cream for the kids. Other bonuses include fresh ground beef and natural cut French fries.

Silk Thai (72 Good Days in Tacoma: Great Thai in the North End)

Silk Thai has been our favorite neighborhood Thai restaurant since we moved to Tacoma. They serve consistently great food out of a surprisingly nice spot in a strip mall on 6th Avenue.

Babblin' Babs Bistro (78 Good Days in Tacoma: Shelter from the Storm at Babs)

Walking down Proctor yesterday, I watched a crow try to take off in the wind storm. I've never seen a crow look scared before, but as he hovered 3 feet in the air and beat his wings, once, twice, three times, four times, then finally on the fifth try got some forward momentum everything about him just screamed "what the...?"
