Why Music? Come and See!

“A child sings before it speaks, dances almost before it walks. Music is with us from the beginning.”-writer Pamela Brown All children are born with musical gifts. We instinctively sing, rock and dance with our babies. It creates a deep bond and it helps our children to grow and delight in the world. We, as parents, have long known what scientist have proven time and time again: children need music. Come share your love for music and dance with your child. Fall Kindermusik classes for infants to 5 year olds begin September 8 at St. Luke's church in Tacoma. Kindermsuik classes use music to facilitate development of the whole child. *Cognitive Development *Musicality *Early Literacy *Movement *Social Development and *Emotional Development Come Join us for a FREE preview class.

Music Begins at Birth

As parents, we have all heard and read that music has a profound impact on a child's development. We are often told that music enhances math performance or other scholastic endeavors. However, the majority of the benefits of early music exposure are much more personal.

Hands on Children's Museum (Hands on Olympia)

The Hands on Children's Museum rocks. We should have checked it out years ago, but I seldom get further South than Lakewood, unless a ride magically appears the way it did yesterday morning when a friend called and suggested the field trip.

Celebration Park (85 Good Days in Tacoma: Celebrate a New Playground)

Rain shmain I say. OK, I tried to say that, but at one point during today's visit to Celebration Park we did have to high-tail it to the car. We still got to spend about 45 minutes enjoying the new tot lot recently installed there, at S 80th and D streets.

North Slope Park (91 Good Days in Tacoma)

This morning, we awoke to find some strange ball of fire in the sky, bringing light and warmth to the Earth. To fully appreciate such a rare celestial occurrence, we made plans to meet a friend at North Slope Park, a hidden playground we finally located just at the end of the Summer and hadn't had a chance to visit yet.

Sunset Terrace Park (122 Good Days in Tacoma)

Yesterday we went to a birthday party for one of our favorite little people at Sunset Terrace Park in University Place. Sunset Terrace is a great park. It's got a large playground, plenty of open grassy space to run, a baseball diamond, and a nice new picnic shelter with bbq facilities.

Everybody loves the seesaw. The springs give little kids a gentle ride and bigger people a bit more of a challenge.

Children's Museum of Tacoma (201 Good Days in Tacoma: A More Active Children's Museum of Tacoma)

Yesterday we had a chance to visit the newly remodeled Children's Museum of Tacoma. The all-new exhibits focus on active play and nutrition, and appeal to a wider age range than previous installations.
