Tacoma Parents Speak Out About School Lunches

Today was "beefy gravy" day. In honor of all the brave boys and girls who ate school lunch today, I thought I'd share some of the comments that have come in through the petition form.

WHEREAS Tacoma's school children rely on school meals for a substantial portion of their daily nutrition;

WHEREAS Children learn their eating habits, good or bad, from what adults offer them;

WHEREAS Tacoma Public Schools currently offer children a fast food style menu;

WHEREAS Pierce County has the highest childhood obesity rate, per capita, in Washington state;

Every school day, kids across the district sit down to a fast-food style menu consisting of corn dogs, hamburgers, nachos, and pizza. For 60% of our students, school lunch (and breakfast) is not a choice but an economic necessity.
