Lyle Quasim, the retiring president of Bates Technical College and longtime social activist and political leader, will present a talk on “The Fire Within” at University of Puget Sound on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012.  

 

UPS Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Cancelled

Due to  inclement weather, we regret that the Martin Luther King Jr. 7 p.m. evening celebration in Kilworth Memorial Chapel and 5 p.m. afternoon reception in the Rotunda at University of Puget Sound have been postponed. We will work to reschedule these for a future date.

Who gives up a day off to clean a gulch littered with junk or to scrub the kitchen floor in a home for people living with AIDS? Last year about 300 students, faculty, and staff from University of Puget Sound did just that, turning their Martin Luther King Jr. holiday into a day of doing chores and sharing time with others in need.

Weyerhaeuser Hall Grand Opening

Today was a big day at University of Puget Sound as students, alumni, faculty, staff, neighbors and friends joined in for the official dedication and grand opening of Weyerhaeuser Hall this evening.

In this photo, posted to the Uninversity Facebook page, President Ronald Thomas, Gail Weyerhaeuser and Bill Weyerhaeuser perform the ceremonial ribbon cutting to open the building to all in attendance.

Remember 9/11 at the “Building Hope” Commemoration

Continuing Tacoma Mama coverage of September 11 10 year anniversary we will bring you some more events which is a part of Immanuel Presbyterian Church's special worship service tomorrow. 

"Building Hope" is the theme of a series of Tacoma events to commemerate the 10 year anniversary of the horrible September 11 terrorists attacks on the Twin Towers and Pentagon. Building Hope - 9/11 10 Year Rememberance is orgainized by Univeristy of Puget Sound's Officce of Spirituality, Service and Social Justice in partnership with Immanuel Presbyterian Church.

Special 9/11 worship service at Immanuel Presbyterian Church

The University of Puget Sound and Immanuel Presbyterian Church has created a series of events to help Tacomans remember and look forward to on the 10th aniversary of September 11, 2001.

The special worship service with Imam Jamal Rahman, Rabbi Ted Falcon and Pastor Don MacKenzie preaching. Together they are known as the three Interfaith Amigos and are publishing their second book this fall.

The service will be held at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 901 N. J St., tomorrow from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
