Annie Wright Schools Announce Year-Round Learning Program for Early Childhood

Annie Wright Schools announced changes that impact the schools’ Early Childhood program for boys and girls,
ages three to five. Beginning with the 2014-2015 academic year, Preschool and
Prekindergarten will be offered year-round, only closing on major holidays,
with no impact to the current tuition costs.

Japanese dance, drumming and food at Tacoma Bon Odori on Saturday

Enjoy Japanese folk dancing and drumming in the evening twilight at the Tacoma Bon
Odori street festival on Saturday, Aug. 2.

The annual celebration features dancers wearing colorful cotton yukata and other
traditional garb performing under hanging lanterns outside the Tacoma Buddhist
Temple. Everyone is encouraged to join the easy-to-follow dances.

The free festival
also marks the return of two crowd favorites: drum groups Fuji Taiko, of
Tacoma, and Matsuri Taiko, of Seattle.

Enjoy Japanese food this Sunday at 52nd Annual Sukiyaki Dinner

 

The Tacoma Buddhist Temple will cook up a mix of traditional and contemporary Japanese food at the 52nd Annual Sukiyaki Dinner on Sunday, March 2, 2014.

The fundraiser’s headline dish is sukiyaki, a one-pot meal of thinly sliced beef, saifun noodles, tofu, green onions and other veggies, all lightly sautéed in a flavorful broth.  Temple members prepare the sukiyaki to order within view of diners.

City of Lakewood’s “Raider Return” Celebration Announcement

The City of Lakewood is hosting a community-wide celebration on Sunday, September 15, 2013, for the 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division (4-2 SBCT). This unit is the City’s military “Community Connector” partner at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM).The events of the day focus on the theme “Raiders Return,” as the unit—known as the Raider Brigade—just completed a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan, where they provided security force assistance to the Afghan National Security Forces.
